In a monumental announcement, Buffalo Trace Distillery has unveiled the Eagle Rare 25 Year Old Bourbon, marking it as the oldest Eagle Rare bourbon ever released. This historic release follows closely on the heels of the 2023 Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, which featured a 19-year 3-month-old Eagle Rare expression, the oldest in the collection's history.
The Eagle Rare 25 is the inaugural release from Buffalo Trace's Warehouse P, one of its two experimental warehouses. The distillery's master distiller, Harlen Wheatley, mentioned that Warehouse P was designed to challenge the conventional limits of bourbon aging. Typically, bourbons aged over 20 years tend to be overly oaky, tannic, and dry. However, the unique aging conditions in Warehouse P have allowed Buffalo Trace to craft a 25-year-old bourbon that is smooth, complex, and devoid of the overoaked taste commonly associated with ultra-aged bourbons.
Tasting Notes:
- Nose: Intense cherry, oak, dark chocolate, and an icing drizzle.
- Beginning Taste: Vanilla, dark fruit, and butterscotch.
- Finish: Extremely long, with lingering notes of rickhouse floor, baking spice, and black pepper.
Packaging: To commemorate the 25-year-old anniversary, often referred to as "silver", Buffalo Trace has adorned each decanter with silver wings. The eagle's wings symbolize freedom and the opportunity to soar higher, reflecting the distillery's relentless pursuit of crafting the perfect bourbon.
Availability & Price: Approximately 200 bottles of Eagle Rare 25 will be released to select retailers, bars, and restaurants starting in November. The suggested retail price for a 750-milliliter bottle is set at $10,000.
